| Major OC Transpo improvements go into effect August 31 | | | Ottawa (August 19, 2008) – On Sunday, August 31, new service improvements go into effect, the rapid transit network will be expanded and seasonal schedule changes will be implemented to meet the higher demand for transit in the fall.Transit service in the area of Greenboro/Hunt Club, Elmvale, Smyth Road and St. Laurent Boulevard will undergo major revisions affecting routes 84, 85 and 111, and the addition of new routes 98, 106, 112, 114 and 121. New weekend service will be provided in Barrhaven on route 95 and in Orléans on route 94. New commuter services will be extended to new residential developments in Kanata North and Stittsville. Improvements will be made to the rapid transit network with increased frequency on routes 95 and 96, and the addition of new routes 98 and 106.Eight new routes will be introduced August 31: 98, 106, 112, 114, 121, 153, 158 and 162. Cancelled routes include the 84 replaced by routes 98 and 114, the 107 replaced by route 158, and the 180 replaced by extra service on route 105. Starting September 2, route 117 will be reinstated on weekdays to serve Carleton University and Algonquin College.Revised fall schedules also go into effect August 31 on most routes and new printed timetables are available. Students are reminded to get their new transit photo ID card ($5.50) before last year’s card expires on September 30. Special photo ID sessions will be available at many schools, so check our web site for locations and times.
